When my son hit four months old, he woke up every single morning before the sun came up. At first, it put a hopeless feeling in me, and I’d get him out of bed exhausted and discouraged. But about six weeks in, I decided to take him for a walk, and I turned a corner to find a glorious sunrise right in front of me. We’ve taken a sunrise walk everyday since.
I think it’s quite literally changing my life. I shuffle out the front door, make my way past all the houses and trees, and get to this field. The first few days I walked slowly, but now I find myself chasing the sunrise, telling Cash that we need to “hurry, because it’s almost here!” My day begins with hope, with aligning my heart to God’s beauty and truth, with celebration. What joy! It’s changing my life.
This piece was painted with those sunrise colors in mind, and with the call to put our hope in Jesus first thing in the morning.
